Greatness is in Serving - Pastor Ben Kellert

Mark 9:33-37  "They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the road?” 34 But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest.

35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.”

36 He took a little child whom he placed among them. Taking the child in his arms, he said to them, 37 “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.”

Who is the Greatest??

  • The disciples were competitive
  • Comparison is the thief of joy
  • they missed the point and needed a new perspective from Jesus:
  • The new perspective is contrary to human nature

Kingdom Upside Down

Look at all those strong men
Claiming to be weak
Look at those offended
Turn the other cheek
Saints out of sinners
Blind men they can see
Waging war in peacetime
Prisoners go free

It's a kingdom upside down
Got the servants at the top
And the rulers on the ground
It's a kingdom upside down
Gotta take up the cross
If you wanna wear the crown
In this kingdom, it's upside down

Matthew 25:37-40  37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"

Thank you for giving, serving and loving...for welcoming Jesus!
