First Sunday of Advent: HOPE -Karlyna Gelderman

Psalm 130:5  "I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
and in his word I put my hope."

Why do we need Hope?

A door stop is like discouragement - it wedges in and prevents you from doing what you are supposed to do.

Discouragement: (ways to know you're discouraged...)

  • unwillingness to accept new tasks
  • lack of excitement to work
  • inability to see the importance of your work...

Discouragement led the Israelites to wander the wilderness for 40 years when they didn't have to!

Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

  • Satan just wants you to give up the fight...to give up Hope!
  • Hope helps you fight off discouragement...
  • Hope keeps you moving forward...

Romans 5:2-5 "...through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we[a] boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us."

  • Do not let your Hope die out!
  • That is what keeps us fighting the fight

Hebrews 3:6  "But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory."

Keep your eyes fixed on God and on His Promises ("In His word I put my Hope...")

  • Don't let go of that Living Hope
  • Jesus Christ is Our Living Hope!
