Passing the Torch: Be Strong & Courageous | Pastor Ben Kellert

Sunday, June 29, 2025

Deuteronomy 31:1-8  "Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: “I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’ The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the Lord said. And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. The Lord will deliver them to you, and you must do to them all that I have commanded you. Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the presence of all Israel, “Be strong and courageous, for you must go with this people into the land that the Lord swore to their ancestors to give them, and you must divide it among them as their inheritance. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

"You can't see me, but I can see you!" - The Father can see us even when we can't see Him!

I will go with you!

I will not fail you!

I will not forsake you!

COURAGE Definition: "mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty."       We need courage when we go through trials!

Quotes about Courage:

  • "Courage is grace under pressure"
  • "Courage is fear that has said its prayers!"
  • "Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyways!"

3 Things God Did:

  1. God would lead them and secure the land
  2. God raise up a new leader (Joshua) -- He doesn't leave us alone and without help or leadership.                Numbers 14:6-9 "Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.”
  3. God would give total and complete victory over all their enemies

God will never leave us in the midst of changing and challenging circumstances in our lives.

We need to be focused on God and not on the enemy/challenge!

*Believe in and have confidence in God and in His power! (He is more than able!!)

*Instead of telling God how big your problems are, we need to tell our problems how BIG our GOD is!*

He will Carry You (song lyrics):

There is no problem too big
God cannot solve it
There is no mountain too tall
God cannot move it

There is no storm too dark
God cannot calm it
There is no sorrow too deep
He cannot soothe it

Oh, if He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders
I know my brother that He will carry you
Oh, if He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders
I know my sister that He will carry you

He said, "Come on to me all who are weary
And I will give you rest, rest, rest, rest"

Rest, rest, rest

There is no problem too big
God cannot solve it
There is no mountain too tall
He cannot move it

There is no storm too dark
God cannot calm it
There is no sorrow too deep
He cannot soothe it

Oh, if He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders
Oh, I know my brother that He will carry you
Oh, if He carried the weight of the world upon His shoulders
Oh, I know my sister that He will carry you
I know my brother and I know my sister that Jesus will carry you

Whatever you are going through, you are not alone!

He will walk with you through it all!  There is nothing impossible with my God!
