Guest Speaker - Christian Counsellor - Abundant Life Counselling (coming to Barrhead for counselling sessions every Tuesday) https://4alcc.com/

Sometimes we think we can do life alone.  If we don't follow instructions or try to do it without help, we are usually left feeling wonky or with a crooked result.

God uses people to be His hands and feet.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

3 Strands:

1. The Strand of Counselling

  • A Healing Heart
  • Sometimes we need a reminder that "It's not all about me"
  • Proverbs 11:14  "For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers."
  • Humility and courage will admit that we don't have all the answers
  • Go straight to the root issue
  • we all have root issues and God wants to bring healing to the roots
  • Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners

2. The Strand of Mentorship

  • A Guiding Hand
  • Someone who is a few steps ahead of us in our journey
  • Proverbs 27:17 "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."
  • Mentorship is a relationship built on trust and a desire for spiritual growth.
  • We need to be spiritual mothers and fathers for the next generation.
  • "Don't follow your heart, follow Jesus"..
  • "You can't pour from an empty cup"  - we need to be refilled so that we can pour back into others and speak life and encouragement effectively (without feeling drained)
  • You may not be a trained counsellor but you can be a guiding hand

3. The Strand of Accountability

  • The Faithful Friend
  • Galatians 6:1-2 "Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."
  • Not about shame or judgement
  • The enemy condemns and makes people feel guilt, isolation and rejection; the Holy Spirit convicts and leads us to repentance and restoration
  • Its easy to drift, so we need and accountability to help us stay on track
  • James 5:16  "Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."
  • James 5:13-16

    "The Prayer of Faith

13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."

Weaving the 3 Strands Together:

  1. Counselling - helps us heal from the past.
  2. Mentorship - helps us grow in the present and prepare for the future.
  3. Accountability - helps us stay on the path every single day.

What can I do? Be a friend, encourage, pray.

*Don't be afraid to reach out for help.

We need eachother and we are stronger together.!
