Faith on it's own is nothing...it needs to be tied to something...someone!  (Is your Faith in your faith? or in Jesus?)

Hebrews 11:1-3 & 6

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."

3 Essential Aspects our Faith needs to Please God:

1. Our Faith needs to be connected to God's Faithfulness

  • Faith - A state of certainty with regard to belief (complete trust). In Greek, the word for "faith" is pistis (pronounced PIS-tis, written as πίστις). In both ancient and biblical usage, it goes far beyond simple belief; it represents a deep, relational trust, committed loyalty, and faithfulness.
  • Assurance - trust/confidence. The underlying Greek word which is translated “assurance” in Hebrews 11:1 is hypostasis – a word formed from stasis “to stand” and hypo “under.” The combined hypostasis or “standing under” refers to the ground on which something is built or the foundation of a house or other building.
  • Conviction - evidence/proof -
Depending on the context, the primary Greek word for conviction in the New Testament is elenchos (ἔλεγχος) or the verb elegcho (ἐλέγχω).
Elenchos means proof, evidence, or a firm persuasion. For example, in Hebrews 11:1 (ESV), faith is defined as the "conviction of things not seen."
  • Not "blind faith"...there is trust or confidence that is there for a reason...
  • Creation - God spoke everything into existence...just looking at God's creation can boost our faith!
  • Romans 8:28  "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

2. Our Faith should Live On for Eternity

  • it leaves a legacy to future generations
  • wouldn't it be cool if your faith was remembered and written about for future generations!
  • 3 things that last forever: Faith, Hope and Love
  • What do you want to do with your life to leave a lasting impact for the Kingdom of God?
  • *There's not greater joy than walking in obedience to God!*

3. That our Faith would be Shared

  • A person has to know there is a God in order to Believe in Him!
  • Romans 10:14-15  "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? 15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"
  • Romans 10:17  "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."
  • Who can you share Jesus with this week?
  • Hebrews 11:6  "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him."
  • Keep your faith and actions rooted in Christ and in His Word!
