Sunday, February 26, 2023 - Bethel Pentecostal Church, Barrhead, Alberta

(Sermon Notes from Pastor Boniface)

THE EXODUS: “GOD REMEMBERED HIS COVENANT”

Key verse: Exodus 2:24 (ESV)

“And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.”

Scripture:Exodus 2:23-25 (NIV)

During that long period, the king of Egypt died. The Israelites groaned in their slavery and cried out, and their cry for help because of their slavery went up to God. God heard their groaning, and He remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob. So, God looked on the Israelites and was concerned about them.

KEY FACTS:

1.     Fact 1: His Covenant [with them] was a major driving factor for their exodus or redemption.

2.     Fact 2: When appearing to Moses before assigning him a redemption role He introduced himself as a “Covenant God” - God of your father Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Exodus 3:6) – Unchanging God throughout generations.

3.     Fact 3: When Moses wanted an assurance of WHO this God really is (Ex. 3:13), God reassured him as a Covenant God in a very unique way: “I AM WHO I AM”, This is my name forever and thus I am to be remembered throughout generations.

WHY DOES HE EVEN CARE ABOUT HIS COVENANT WITH HIS PEOPLE?

Deuteronomy 7:9 (ESV) Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.

1.      He made It, and He is the faithful God

2.     Extending His Steadfast Love:    Isaiah 54:10 "For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

3.     A Covenant of Peace: “…my covenant of peace…” (Isa 54:10)    John 14:27 - Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

4.     A binding Covenant: …I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people (Jer 31:31-33)

5.     Eternal Covenant: And I am sure of  this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion on the day of Jesus Christ. (Phil. 1:6)
